Bio

‘Too Tall’ Tony comes from a radio/theatre background. Born in Germany, educated in England and Canada – he’s worked  ‘on air’ with radio stations in Guelph and Ottawa, and as an actor has played a wide range of roles from Archbishop Thomas Beckett in ‘Murder in the Cathedral’ to a lanky Tweedledum in ‘Alice Through the Looking Glass! As a young actor, Tony had the great pleasure of working on stage with the late Oscar winning actress Mercedes McCambridge, who provided the spine chilling voice of the devil in the horror film classic ‘The Exorcist’..!

A born adventurer – he’s worked on over 30 cruise ships as a cruise director, port lecturer and art auctioneer. Destinations included most of the islands in the Caribbean, Bahamas, Bermuda, Central America, Mexico, Alaska, Hawaii, Indonesia, Australia & New Zealand. He also has 2 successful summits of Mt Aconcagua in Argentina under his belt – at 22,834′..it’s the highest mountain in the Western Hemisphere.

His career as a race & special events announcer began back in the mid 80s when veteran race director Alan Brookes asked Tony to host the awards’ ceremony at the Billy Taylor 15k road race in Guelph, Ontario. Tony was working with CJOY radio at the time, and Alan was teaching at the University of Guelph. Alan later went on to found the now well-established Canada Running Series, and Tony is proud to have been part of the CRS announce team from the very beginning. In addition to the CRS, he’s been race announcer/MC at numerous events throughout Southern Ontario, including road races, triathlons & dragon boat festivals. He’s been the MC/announcer at both the Canadian & US National Dragon Boat Championships.

Many athletes are familiar with his clear, baritone voice & engaging, larger than life presence at races.

As a way of giving back to the community, Tony’s been the auctioneer at numerous charity auction events, including the Bachelor/Bachelorette Auction for Diabetes Research & the Rotary Club of Toronto Charity Auction.
